If there is a legendary creature that is part of every culture’s imagination, it is definitely the dragon. Protector, temple guardian or compelling adversary, it is inevitably a symbol of life, prosperity and good luck. A benevolent power that is within us, far removed from any evil force or other fateful oracles.
The dial is made in the Japanese "Negoro-Nuri" lacquering tradition. Negoro-Nuri (Japanese 根 来 塗) is a Japanese lacquer technique that was developed in the Negoro Temple (Negoro-Ji) in the ancient province of Kii (now Wakayama Prefecture). For centuries, this lacquer work was called Negoro-Mono (Negoro things) or Negoro for short. The term Negoro-Nuri (Negoro paint) did not appear until the Meiji period.
